THE QUALITY OF THE HYPOTHESES FORMULATION MADE BY THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT STUDENTS STAIN GRADUATED IN 2012

The principle purpose of the study is to answer some problems as follow: 1) How is the quality of the hypotheses of the theses of the English department STAIN students graduated in 2012? 2) what kinds of research are reflected by hypotheses?
The purposes of this study is: to describe the quality of the hypotheses of the theses of the English department STAIN students graduated in 2012, and to describe the kinds of the hypotheses.
In this study, the writer used quantitative approach. In data collecting procedures, techniques such as coding, tabulating and explaining. The subjects of this study were 23 students’ hypotheses in English department graduated in 2012. To take the subject, purposive sampling is used.
The results ofthe study can be explained as follows: 1). First, in terms of the statement of the expected relationship between variables, there are twenty three hypotheses that fullfill good criteria and there is one poor hypothesis. Therefore, it can be concluded that all the hypotheses are good in terms of the statement of the expected relationship between variables. Second, in terms of the testability of hypothesis, there are twenty three hypotheses that fullfill good criteria and there is one poor hypothesis. Therefore, it can be concluded that all the hypotheses are good in terms of the testably of hypothesis. Third, in terms of the simplicity and the conciseness of hypothesis, there are twenty three hypotheses that fullfill good criteria and there is one poor hypothesis. Therefore, it can be concluded that all the hypotheses are good in terms of the simplicity and the conciseness of hypothesis. 2) The kinds of research reflected by the hypotheses. There are three hypotheses showing correlation studies and twenty hypotheses showing experimental studies.
